12 pm: “Celebration of 90 Years of Suffrage,” with special guest, Karen Thurman, Chair, Florida Democratic Party. March from the Reitz Union on UF campus to Ustler Hall. Wear white! Food and refreshments provided!

8:30 am: Labor Day Breakfast at the Carpenter’s Hall, 1910 NW 53 Ave., Gainesville. Please bring two non-perishables for the food bank. Perry McGriff and Debbie Boyd will speak.

All Democrats are encouraged to attend! Some of us will gather before the meeting (around 5:30 pm) at Emiliano’s Cafe (7 SE 1st Ave.) for supper and to socialize. Please join us!

KEY PROVISIONS that take effect immediately under Senate Bill as amended by Reconciliation Bill:
1. SMALL BUSINESS TAX CREDITS. Offers tax credits to small businesses to make employee coverage more affordable. Tax credits of up to 35 percent of premiums will be immediately available to firms that choose to offer coverage. Effective beginning for calendar year 2010. (Beginning in 2014, the small business tax credits will cover 50 percent of premiums.)

The Alachua Democratic Party had its 2010 Outstanding Democrats Award Luncheon on Monday, April 26th, at the Paramount Plaza Hotel! Congratulations and thanks to all award recipients for their outstanding service!
Congratulations to Fred Pratt who received our Democrat of the Year Award! The Eleanor Roosevelt Award went to Gainesville Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan, and Gainesville Commissioner and Mayor-Elect Craig Lowe received the Harry S. Truman “The Buck Stops Here” Award. The Young Democrats awarded their Jeffrey Mattison Wershow Award to Robert Prather. “Unsung Hero” Awards were received by Ron Bern, Warren Clark, Sheila Crapo, Rosemary Christy, Sally Guthrie, Victor & Martha Harrell, Matthew Marsh, and Robert Prather. Emily Browne was given the Special Lifetime Contribution Award for her long and effective advocacy of progressive causes in our community. The Party Chair, Jon Reiskind, gave special recognition this year to the chairs of standing and ad hoc committees in 2009: Beth Richardson, Susan Bottcher, Rosemary Christy, Matthew Marsh, Terry Fleming, Don Herget, Jocelyn Peskin, Sally Guthrie, Robert Prather, Evelyn Foxx, and Julia Reiskind.
